kate is basically elsa from Frozen.

x

Who is a big fan of FROZEN?  Well you must not have daughters if you aren't.  We have watched it and the you tube clips we can find on repeat for the past several days.  Kate and I decided that she could very well be Elsa.

reason 1: Did you know that FROZEN is based on a Han's Christen Anderson story that is set in Denmark. Look it up!  and that Kate's predominate heritage is Danish.  In a big way.  Not only is Jake's family predominately Danish, some of them even speak it, and her grandparents are currently on a mission in the Denmark mission.  My mormon heritage is largely Danish as well. (the Disney film may not take place in Denmark but since the folk tale it is based on is we are counting this)

reason 2:  She has white blonde hair, giant cartoon big eyes, blue eyes and a heart shaped face.  Just like Elsa.

reason 3: Kate has several great great grandmothers named Elsa (who are Danes)  so many on both Jake and my side that it was almost Bethany's name.

reason 4: she loves ice.... just like her mom. .

reason 5:  she is an awesome big sister who is loved so much by her little sisters.  Just like Elsa.

reason 6:  Kate was a queen for Halloween this past year- in which she choose a purple cape before we knew anything about the movie.  kate points out that elsa is wearing a purple cape when she becomes queen so she was dressed up as Elsa becoming a queen for Halloween and didn't even know it.

Kate also points out though that her personality is more like Anna- "silly and crazy and not so royal"

We have had a movie watching few days.  Sick kids and a husband away on business means limitless tv.  We were having a great time watching you tube clips of all the songs together tonight on my laptop, until I slipped and it fell and hit the hearth.  the screen cracked and broke.  Boo hiss. So i have no computer anymore.  I pretty confident it can be replaced and that all the data is still on the hard drive un injured... I hope anyways, hence I am not having a full on melt down and only irritated.  Oh well.  Marianne, Sam and Kate all dancing and mimicking Elsa in "let it go" were fun while it lasted.  Mari even asks for "Frozen" by name now.

now if only I could learn to do fancy Elsa braids for her.

1.  Kate has been sick the last few days.  Yesterday she fell asleep on the couch waiting for a turn to play the Leap Pad and slept for 5 hours, even with the house and kids and life all around her.  I'm so glad.  She is always our most sick kid.  I sent her to school this morning thinking she was mostly better, but Jake just picked her up and brought her home after the nurse  from school called with Kate in her office.

2.  Bethany lives like this now.  She can get from lying to sitting all on her own (usually gives herself some clapping) and then climbs up on the ottoman.  She feels like she is almost standing up.

3.  Today I decided to put up Baby Einstein- which Mari use to love when she was about the same age on the computer for her to watch as she did her half stand on the ottoman.  She loved it.  And thought it was super fun.  When I uploaded these picture to the computer, I liked the comparisson of Bethy's hair to Sam's.  Sometimes people say "her hair is not red, it is blonde"  but look at it next to Sam's blonde in this picture.  It is red for our family anyways that is for sure.

I have been feeling a lot of pressure to finish the rest of the basement soon so that Kate and Sam can have their own rooms.  And since we haven't started on the rooms, it didn't look like it was going to happen soon, so I proposed one day that we move Kate into with Mari, and move Bethy from that room to Sam's.  Happily everyone thought it was a great idea.  Kate loves being in a girl room, Mari loves playing with the stuff that Kate moving in brought, Sam loves that he is "in charge" of Bethany now, and I love that Sam is getting a bit more sleep- so he is not as cranky, and Mari is getting a bit less sleep at night- so she will still take a nap in the afternoon.  We will see how long it works but I feel like we bought ourselves at least a year with the change up.  For now I keep finding the girls cuddled up together on Kate's bed reading together.

This is Marianne's play kitchen and food she got for Christmas.  Bethy scoots and scoots to get into what looks like lots of tasty food she is not allowed to eat, only to discover it is not real food every time.

Happy New Year!
The day before New Years I planned a little party just for our little family.  We have found it too difficult to try and do New Years Eve up late at somebody's home for too long now.  It is just not worth it with all those kids of ours.  So instead we just planned to have a little party of our own.  I had some sparklers, games, fondue, martinelli's, time calpsules with resolutions to make, and balloons to pop to help us decide what order to do it all in.  I talked to my sister Amy as I was blowing up the balloons that afternoon for the party, and she mentioned that they were thinking about coming up to an attraction in Midway that night for their New Year's Eve.  So we invited to them over to our party too.  They brought dinner and silly string and then we really had a party!  We had a balloon drop every 20 minutes or so to see what the next activity would be.  I think the sparklers were a favorite, or the silly string fight in the basement (which I still need to sweep up), when we made and decorated family time capsules with our goals for the year, I think Kate picked learning to swim better, Sam picked being nice to others, and Mari we helped pick being potty trained.  We rung in the New Year at what the Carpenter's call. "Baby Standard Time"  8:00pm.  Which was perfect.   Fun night!
