Aug 28, 2013

One cute baby in my bed and a boy with a green toungue.

Bethany laughs all the time now.  All the time.  Or smiles whenever you say anything to her.  She is like Mari in that way- she laughs even if you just move your eyebrows a bunch or say anything in a happy tone.  She is another angel.  I call her my darling.  She is rarely ever sad, and cries maybe three times a week at most, usually for about two minutes before she finds her thumb to suck it to sleep.  She had her four month check up today.  And now she is sad and doesn't feel well darn shots.
When discussing milestones with the doc about her, I mentioned she rolled front to back, back to front both ways and rolled and scooted across the living room last week even.  He didn't believe me I think saying "I rarely see that in children this young"   then she about rolled off the table right while he was checking her out and was moving all over the place, grabbing his stethescope from his neck and being super coordinated.  To which he said- "she seems to have the gross motor skills of a 6- 9 month old."  Yes and she soothes herself to sleep on top of it all and giggles at the drop of a hat.  We've won the baby lotto again.  She measured 70% percentile for height, 59% for weight and 76% or something like that for head.    Can you tell she is number 4.  Some of the other kids actually had measurements documented on the blog and at least accurate information, but I don't want to go dig the paper out of the car so some best guess estimation from our appointment hours ago will do.

Sam is gearing up for preschool.  He has been asking me for an entire year when he will get to go.  Last year we thought he might do preschool and even let him buy some school clothes and a backpack, but then he didn't do preschool so he has been very ready.  This week we got to meet his teacher and see his classroom.  He was elated.  She gave him some treats hence green tonuge and in wanting to see it I took his picture for him.... oh wait nope, this green treat was from the primary carnival this week.  His treat pile that seems to grow with every outing anyways.
He and I have enjoyed lots of time just the two of us this past while when Kate is in school, the girls are both napping and he has not started school yet.  He is still the same hard working Sam he was last year and all year.  We work in the yard together, and he is actually sometimes helpful, and always fun to have tag along.  Alone Sam will talk your ear off.  About everything and anything.  When the whole family is together he doesn't say much, but get him alone and he never stops.  He is a dreamer, and a planner, and very ambitious.  I overheard him talking to a friend about a girl last weekend to.  We have relief society meetings at my house and Sam hosts all the kid that belong to the relief society ladies.  He likes being the ring leader I think now that Kate is at school. Also do you see how tan that boy is.  He seems to be the only child with my skin.

Kate is well into her 2nd week of school and loving it.  She tells me all about lunch, and how it is her favorite part of the day.  Who she plays with "usually Jackie" who she sits by on the bus "Ashley and Jocylynn" and that a certain boy is chasing her at recess and gives her stickers.  She has had very little homework and it is always a challenge for us to work on homework together.  Mostly because she insists I am wrong and she is correct on how to spell things like "and" and "cookies".  That was todays battle anyway.  But proudly she passed off all her sight words from last year on the first try (without us even looking at them all summer, shhhhh) and has told me about a class pet bird she is excited about.  She started dance this week too.  She is the perfect ballerina.

Mari and I had a little adventure of our own last night when we were bringing in the bikes and chairs and all other summer time fun that was out on the front lawn.  Shoeless of course.  Mary almost stepped on a snake in the garage.  I hustled her onto the front porch and since Jake was at a scout meeting, called to my neighbor on his front lawn to come and help me.  Of course he was afraid of snakes himself so I got a push broom and pushed it out into our gravel parking pad.  It was only 2 feet long or more but it freaked me out a ton.

Just Mari and I went to her well check today too (where she measured in the giant category) and had a delightful time, until shot were given, chatting together.  After her checkup she picked a giant slimy lizard out of the prize box.  I think it was because of the snake encounter.  She told her Dad when he came home "snake, scary"  over and over.  The sticky toy lizard she has been throwing around saying "ewwww" in a happy she knows it is fun kind of way. Her speaking is amazing and fun lately.  She has such great intonation in her words "oh WOOOOOOW" "Aweome"  she says."OOHHHHH".  Also she is a mini genius... I mean a giant genius, and knows all of her letters and most of their sounds and is pretty adorable pronouncing W, F and M.  She says YU for the letter Y because she thinks the right answer is BYU.  Jake tries to correct her. I think it is awesome.

Jake and I spent the weekend hanging up a curtain rod.  One of galvanized steel piping that took for ever and ever and ever.  I'm not sure we got anything else done this weekend in fact.  I keep telling myself I'm going to work on the curtains for it when I get through the laundry so I can pre-shrink the fabric first... but the trick is that the laundry is absolutely never ever done.  I best make a new plan.

That about sums things up round these parts.  Is it really almost September.  I'd be sad if it wasn't my favorite month of all months.

Kate headed off to 1st grade this morning

Last night just her and I went to back to school night.  We met our teacher Mrs. Hayter and a bunch of kids in our class.  Actually we already knew our teacher (her and I served in a Young Women's presidency together two years ago) and most of the kids in our class (they were either in our class last year or are in our ward now, or were in our old ward). I'm so excited for Kate.  I think she is going to have a great year.  She even said to me after "I won't have to worry about making friends because I already am friends with everyone"  It is so nice when things work out kindly for your kid.   It never hurts to know the teacher personally too.  After the class meeting we went out for cupcakes just the two of us.  Kate thought that was pretty special, especially when she couldn't decide to get chocolate or raspberry and I let her get both, of course she share them both with me too.  We prepacked her lunch in her new hello kitty lunch box and her backpack with pencils and cute erasers and scissors and whatever else she might need.  She had her purple outfit with her purple headband and her new sparkly purple shoes all ready.
This morning we woke her up early to get ready.  She even had enough time for family scripture and prayer and her chore.  We had rasin bran with milkl and tea for breakfast (she had a bit of the sniffles).  Then a few quick pictures and we walked to the bus.  Which hip hip hooray has moved and now we can see it from the front door.  On our two minute walk we ran into all our friends and hung out at the bus stop with everyone for a minutes (checking out each others shoes/ talking about teachers etc) oh to be a fly on the wall in the bus.
As we were walking to the bus- of course Kate was running she never walks when she is excited she shouts to the world "here I come first grade"  I'll be honest it made me tear up, she was just so confident and excited.
I can't wait until she comes home so I can hear all about her day.

*update.  She came home.  It didn't seem as long as I thought it might.  Having afternoon kindergarten maybe helped as I am use to her coming home at 3:30 already, she just goes sooner now.
The first thing off the bus was "Mom I found M & M's and a valentine in my lunch box."  They were from me of course and she knew it.  Then she told me about how one of her friends said she had the best lunch of everyone, she almost agreed, except somebody else didn't have to eat a sandwich so she and also had M & M's so she concluded their was better.  She told me all the friends she sat by at lunch and who and what she played (some microphone rock game) at recess.  All about the rules and lining up.  She also told me on the two minute walk home that she had a bus sticker and it ruined her shirt, she had a shirt with glitter on it and it came off with the sticker.  She showed me the math they had done. Sounds like it was awesome.  She has class with our neighbor girl Jackie.... I think I'm a bit jealous of all the time they spend together, not only did they play all summer, they walk to and ride the bus to school together, sit near one another in class, ate lunch together, played at recess together, rode the bus home together and then after a snack and a chore, they played outside before dinner together.  Love it!

1.  Jake makes scary faces at Bethany and she cracks up. She is always laughing lately.  What fun.
2.  Mary hanging out.
3.Pirate Back to School Feast. "Yo Ho Here we go Together as  Team, Jake and the Pirates and Me" The kids are really into Jake and the Neverland Pirates.  This is their song. Sam had been asking for a pirate feats all summer so I used it as an excuse to have a back to school dinner.  It was complete with pirate hats, pirate foods, and a treasure hunt/ mini devotional.  My food consisted of fish sticks and shells and cheese (the kids came up with this: pirates would eat fish and shells the reasoned)  That awesome blue jello.  It had gummy fish inside the blue ocean, a grahm cracker sand complete with an "X" and pirate skull.  I was pretty impressed.  Some pirate ship cupcakes too.  Our treasure hunt had us going to certain places in the house based on things we would need to do to get ready for school.  It had tips for being a good pirate like always listening to your Captain, Being Helpful, If a pirate has nothing nice to say he just says "arrr" and how the Holy Ghost can be a guide to us like a treasure map.
I thought it all had a lot of potential, but mostly I was disappointed because the kids were whinny and nobody would even help me set the table.

Aug 12, 2013

We celebrated Marianne's birthday today.  A few days early.  partly because we couldn't wait, and partly because the week is busy.
It was the best day.
We started the day by just her and I going to the store.  We needed candles, and maybe some balloons. So together we shopped.  She loves going to the store by herself with me.  She pointed out each and every thing she could name by word.  I love taking just her too.  She watched patiently as they blew the helium balloons up.  They gave her some smarties too.  She was in heaven.  Sitting in the cart and then the car with 6 helium balloons and a small candy she was so happy.  I didn't even want to drive, just sit and watch her be so content.  Mary is always happy.  So when she has a reason to be happy she is extremely adorable and over the top happy.  It is pretty easy to please Mary.  When we got home we gave her a bath.  I did her hair and painted her nails pink like she asked.  Then she had lunch and went down for her nap.
That is when Sam, Kate and I started working quickly.  We decorated a cake, put up streamers, more balloons and then they had the idea to put up some pictures they colored of minnie and mickey mouse (she was having a minnie mouse party because she loves minnie and mickey right now)  We also piled up all the dolls and babies she loves so much in the living room.  And of course her presents.  Then we set the table with decorations and then we set up her big present, a pool.  Soon she woke up, we called Jake who was working away from home today to hurry home.  We didn't want her to see her surprise party just yet.  I got her dressed in some new minnie mouse clothes and then put her on my bed with the computer and Kate and Sam watching a minnie cartoon until Jake came home which was only a few minutes.  Then we all put on Disney ears and let her come in.  We sang her happy birthday and showed her all of her surprises.  She was so excited and I think she really felt loved which is why I put so much work into birthdays afterall.
First she opened presents.
Kate and Sam had gone with me to the store and picked out a mickey mouse doll and a very cute teapot set.
From Jake and I she got the big pool- which we showed her later, and a few puzzles and some more clothes with minnie on them.
She also got a minnie mouse costume from Aunt Amy and a baby doll crib from Grandma and Grandpa Anderson.
She loved her gifts and every reaction was pure delight. She loved everything so much.  She is just such a happy pleasant girl.  But the gifts were perfect.  The Mickey she carried around all day.  We played tea party a bit and did her puzzles.  Then we let her have her cake.  She had some trouble getting the candles out.  But jumped up with her arms in the air when she finished them.  Then ate her cake.  We had one last surprise for her so we let her go in the front yard and find her pool.  She was ready to jump right in, but we made her go inside and get her swimming suit on.  Then she played in it and outside with all the nieghbor kids well past dinner time.  We filled the pool with her floating tube monkey and some balloons.
We went out to eat for dinner to Timp Freeze.  Partially because Mary loves corn dogs, sweet potato fries and ice cream- of which they have all.  And partly because our fridge is out and I don't want to buy groceries until the new one comes on Wednesday.
Then we came home and Grandma and Grandpa Anderson came over with a baby doll crib.  We put i
t together and played with it and she loved it of course.
I always say my favorite days of the year are my kids birthday.  It was certainly true today.  Making her feel loved and special and seeing the other kids pitch in to make her day special and help her have the happiest day is such a wonderful thing.  Mary is such a blessing in our home.  She is so very loved, by everyone, and it is so easy to love her.
When we put her to bed at night we all came in her room and sang her Happy Birthday one last time.  She did her little bouncing hand leading us in the song.
My heart explodes for this girl.
I can't imagine a better day with her.
