November- School, 2015

Kate and Sam are doing so well in school this year.
I got those cards in the mail from their teachers one week.
In the same week both came home with 1st place medals from the Reflection's Art contest they participated in.  Kate had taken a picture of an imagination scene with Sam in it.  Sam had written an amazing story about a dragon who learns to be nice.  They said it was fun to hear each other's name being called so close together.  That seems to happen a lot.
In school Sam is soaring.  He is heads and tails above all the kids in his class.  He can read anything you put in front of him-  He can complete a 80 page book in a day, and is currently reading Call of The Wild- pretty decent for a 1st grader.  Many of the kids in his class are working on site words.  We also never practice our spelling words because he usually gets most of the correct on the pre-test the Monday they are given.  At his most recent teacher conference his teacher asked him to just do his math work on his paper because although he CAN do it all in his head super fast, she wants to makes sure he understands how to get to the answers the correct way.  When I go to the school people always ask me if I am Sam's mom- it is clear that Sam is well liked by his classmates and I can see why.  He is so helpful and kind to them.
Kate is doing well in school as well.  She is a stand out leader.  She is always getting awards, recognition, put into certain clubs, etc, because of her excellent leadership skills.  I see it in her.  She is not afraid or shy one bit to talk to teachers and tell them what she is thinking (this occasionally gets us into trouble)  but is helpful as a student leader.  Earlier this year her teachers discussed with me that they believe Kate may have some dyslexia.  I see it too, but you would never really know it since she manages straight A's (or 4's is what our school does) without even trying to hard.  She wants to much to be perfect and gets upset at school when she isn't perfectly on task or able to complete everything like she would like.
I'm proud of them both.
