Celebrating Father's Day with a Train Ride

We decided to celebrate Father's Day on Saturday with a ride on the Heber Valley Railroad and dinner out. The kids couldn't have been happier about it. We went and bought the tickets the day before and all they could talk about was going on the train and having their tickets. As we arrived Sam started shouting "All Aboard" with his hand up to his mouth. I'm not sure where he learned this trick, but it was encouraged repeatedly. The ride was only 1.5 hours long, which was plenty long enough for us all. We enjoyed seeing the place we live through the eyes of a tourist.
The kids covered their ears every time the train horn went off, happily put their hands high in the air when "bank robbers" high jacked the train, and said "choo choo" about a million times. Then they spent a good thirty minutes making friends with some Indian tourists sitting behind us. It was a fun family outing.

The kids also went ahead and picked out their own gifts for their Dad.
Sam picked out two tools, and couldn't stop talking about them so we had to give them to Jake a few days early. Since Jake already has every tool under the sun, Sam got him a hammer and he and Kate painted it together. Kate had originally planned to get him some batteries for his phone to never run out of batteries which I thought was a great idea ,but then at the store she changed her mind and got him a lollipop and some spider poison stating it was Dad's job to kill all the spiders. I of course gifted some more real gifts, but seeing what the kids come up with is always so fun.

How lucky we are to have Jake as a husband and father! He really is the best.
