September 15, 2014

Our first day for real fun.  As we walked in the park we saw Donald Duck.  It was a great way to start our adventure.  Then we headed to the Toy Story Mania ride.  Next up was the big ferris wheel.  Which all Sam, Mari and Beth were afraid to get on.  We were on our second ride and had three crying kids- Jake and I were shaking our heads for sure.  But they made it through.  We found that Mari actually didn't like any ride really.  She thought they were all too scary- except maybe small world and winnie the pooh.  The same went for Beth.  She didn't really like the rides except occasionally.  But we found other ways to have fun.  The next ride we went on was the new Little Mermaid ride.  Kate had been looking forward to riding this for a few years since it was new since the last time we went.  We spent some time on all the Bug's Life rides, then got some frozen lemonade which produced some of my favorite pictures of Beth of the entire trip.  We got some fast passes for the big Cars racer ride that Sam was most excited about.  Then I took the little girls to nap at the hotel so we could stay out late.  It worked and both girls took an hour or so nap easily while Jake took the big kids easily on ten or more rides around the park.  When we came back and were waiting for Jake and the big kids we ran into Doc Mcstuffins.  They said Sophia was on her way and Mari had even wore her Sophia shirt in hopes me might find her.  So we waited.  I think seeing Mari fall into Sophia hugging her so intently was one of my favorite moments on the whole trip.  She was in heaven.  Her and Beth really enjoyed the Disney Junior Show we went to next as well. In fact this may have been Beth's favorite thing of the entire trip.  One of my other favorite memories from this day was Marianne so happy and excited she was doing this funny  "chick chick" dance where she said "chick chick" and made little wings and squared.  I have seen her do the dance once before when she was excited.  It was just so silly.    Soon after we went to redeem the Cars fast passes only to have the ride break down right in front of us.  In most five year old boys who had been waiting to ride the ride not only all day but for years since he knew it existed, there would have been tears- but not Sam.  He had faith it would all work out.  We kept checking and checking, and I was getting really worried and sad he might not get to ride the ride.  But about an hour before close it opened!  The line was literally almost out the entire Cars land- but our fast passes got us through in 20 minutes and he rode it with Kate and I.  He loved it but really wanted to let Dad ride it with him.  So we got Dad,  and the girls and I went and rode the Little Mermaid- Kate's favorite ride, while Dad and Sam got in line hoping to get through before the closed for the day and they did!  So this was my favorite memory of Sam the whole trip.  He was so patient and happy, and in the end he got to ride the ride with each of us.  I think it was my favorite ride too!
Then we all headed back together.  It was dark.
One fun thing that happened this day and the entire time at the Disneyland Parks, was that everyone would say "Go Cougars" or something similar to us because our kids and Jake all have BYU hats and shirts they were wearing on different days.  Turns out the entire park is filled with Utah and LDS families this month.  In fact, and employee asked me if Utah had a school break that week because she had met so many families from Utah.  And on both days waiting to get in the park we talked with families in front and back of us in line- and everyone was LDS.  The park was only a bit crowded- and not at all crowded according to the employees. And it was super hot- almost 100 degrees.
Great first day!
