My favorite part of Christmas Eve is often the nativity. We let the kids do it all on their own pretty much. While I read the story out of Luke. They direct it, come up with props and costumes. If you can't follow who is what in this its because everyone is multiple people and we do it two times with different roles. My favorite is when Jake is the donkey for Mary and then everyone wants a turn at Mary. Beth wasn't too thrilled with any of it. I also like Sam tells Jake to be a wise man with him then tells him to pretend the ceiling light is a star and to point at it.
