Summer of Fun Update

Remember our pledge to make this the SUMMER OF FUN

Well today we attempted to honor that promise.
We packed the day full of fun and little responsibility.
It really did feel like summer vacation kid style.

6:00 am- kids are up and eating breakfast. I am actually not aware of what was going on at this hour because I slept for another 45 minutes while my dutiful husband took care of the crew.

8:00 am- showered and dressed and getting the children to this point as well. Then packing some snacks and an assortment of shovels, buckets and bubbles

8:30 am- Headed out for a little bike ride and to the park with a trailer full of kids, sunscreen, water etc in the still somewhat cool summer morning.

9:00 am- Park Time. Joined by 25+ kids and their 12 moms. A lot of digging in the gravel, snacking, chatting and climbing oh watching the tractor across the street.

11:10 am- yes that is over 2 hours at the park- with only a small missed spot on Sam's neck to show for a sunburn. A nice cool ride home luckily due to a brief moment of overcast.

12:00- lunch of garden fresh pico and grilled cheese. A nap for Sam. I attempted to get Kate down for a nap thinking she was worn out and we had big plans for later. No go. Some coloring and more playing outside in the backyard. I tell Kate if she can pick up all her toys by herself I will let her watch a movie. She works on the project momentarily- then looses interest.

3:00 pm - Sam wakes up and the kids have a snack of yogurt and oatmeal. They love oatmeal these days. Cleaning up after some a failed trip to the bathroom for Kate. New clothes, and more snacks packed in my bag.
Kate finally picks up all the toys all by herself- I let her in on the secret we are going to see a movie at "the big movies" . Enjoyed grins and jumping of excitement from her.
Head to Park City- Now Jake has joined the party too..

3:40 pm- Quick trip to browse the pets at the Pet Store. Always a hit-the canaries.

4:00 pm- Toy Story 3 in 2D for us thank you. Although we did not agree it was 99% fresh we enjoyed it and more impressively both children watched, sat quietly aside from shrieks of excitement and momentary clapping. The dum dums, popcorn and sweedish fish I smuggled in were likely partially the hero making this over 2 hour movie event possible. This is only the 3rd movie Kate has ever been to, and the 1st where Sam was old enough not to just be asleep in his car seat so it was a big deal to them (and us as we don't normally go to the show either). I think the last time we went to the movies we saw UP and both kids came for that as well.

6:10 pm- walking to dinner talking to Kate about her favorite parts of the movie (the girl potato, the girl cowboy, and the barbie) Her wonderful social manners respond with inquires about our favorite parts as well.

6:15 pm- Dinner at Kneaders. Some how every time we go there the same girl takes our order and doesn't appear to be listening to us as she does. We'll take that to go thank you...

6:20 pm- Free concert in the park city outdoor amphitheater. Giggling and grinning with pride as Sam dances it up for some older ladies seated next to us. Kate finally warms up the idea of dancing to the music too.

7:10pm- Loaded up into the car and headed home with one kid already asleep and the other one soon to follow suit.

7:40 pm- Arriving home. Drop children off in their beds without brushing their teeth or changing their clothes. 1st load of laundry and dishes for the day. 1st chores of any kind for the day- now that is what I call the summer of fun.

Just one day of living up to the summer of fun has me worn out.
Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

HOW FUN!!!!!!! Wow I had no idea that you could have that much fun in one day here. I can't wait to see pictures and to ask Kate how she like the movie. We stopped by to bring you guys your hat and movie but you were out on the town. Johnny was so worried about Kate because she wasn't at home. We even drove by the park because he thought that she might still be there. We will get it to you tomorrow! What fun parents you are!
