Aug 2, 2014

Marianne started her butterfly three year old birthday waking up to a decorated door like has become tradition.  She walked out expecting to see her birthday set up and was a bit confused and upset when it was not set up at 6:30 am.  But we got right to work setting it all up together and making the cake.  She helped me with the cake and decorations, then got to go pick out donut for breakfat with Dad and when she came back everything was all set up.  She was especially excited about the giant butterfly on the fireplace- it was a pinata but he didn't know yet what that was, and the other butterfly at the table.  There were butterfly straws, and party hats and plates and ribbon and about 45 balloons that I almost passed out blowing up.
But first things first, she got to take two friends to do something special.  Mom helped her pick out going to ride the carousel in town and looking at the ducks and goats and the zermatt while we were there.  Picking up friends was a bit tricky as some three year old girls are more shy than Mari, and I didn't realize it might be scary to come with us.  But we made it in the car and to the Zermatt- even if one mom was kind enough to jump in her car just so Mari could have her friend with her.  Mallory and Becca ended up coming with us.  We got the the carousel and it was very exciting.  All the kids picked out their animals and we had to sit and wait for a few minutes for the bell hop to come and turn it on.  Mari picked out a bear which she thought was a panda to ride.  But then when the guy was about to start it Mari started crying that she wanted to get off.  So I went and got her off and she sat on the carousel bench seat with me. And seemed pleased but it certainly wasn't what I had in mind.  I had bought two rides for everyone, to I tried to convince her to ride on an animal- but when she wouldn't her little friends without prompting wanted to come and sit by her on the bench which was super sweet, and so the three blond haired adorable friends sat on the carousel bench together.  Bethany seemed to love the ride anyways and giggled the entire time.  But our three year old Mari was scared.  Next up we went to the pond there- but the ducks were not out, we did see their really big koi pond fish.  But as Mari went to get a better look her foot slipped and got stuck in the pond mud.  And then her shoe was lost in the mud until Mom dug it out.  Really?  This wasn't going awesome yet.  Then we went and saw the goats they have there.  Then we went back to the car where I completely knocked Mari over on the asphalt on accident and she started to cry.  I was feeling bad for how un fun this fun outing was suppose to be.  Then she opened a few small gifts her friends had brought for her and she was happy.  I hope she felt special to get to bring friends to a little party- she had been talking about having her friends over as part of her birthday for so long.
Next up we came home and Mari was excited to open her presents.  So she did. She got those butterfly wings from Kate.  They are a really well done toy.  Marianne is using them as super hero wings or cape most of the time.  But loved them.  Then she got a yo-gabba gabba figurine set from Bethany.  Next he opened Sam' present.  I mentioned earlier how she has been in love with her brother lately.  She and Sam watch the Yo Gabba Gabba show together, and when I asked Marianne one day after she had been watching it earlier, what she wanted for her birthday she told me "Sam's going to get me a Robbi for my present for my birthday"  which she repeated for weeks  We came across a stuffed one at a store about a week before her birthday, she saw it and was in love with it and even repeated again that "Sam's going to get me my Robbi present"  So I snuck back later that night to get it.  As you can see in the pictures it was a favorite gift.   I found that set of Yo Gabba Gabba's for her before I found the stuffed animals which means she got to Robbi's and that was even better because then one was a baby and one was the Dad- which is how she likes it. Jake and I got her a bunch more animal figurines that she seems to love- including babies animals with their mothers which is what she likes to play with them, and then a play house tent.  The tent has also been a big hit and the kids basically are living in it most of the day as of now.  Marianne has all her new gifts inside and loves that she is kind of in charge of what happens in the tent even though she is not the oldest kid.  But it is her tent- so they will listen.
After playing for a bit we blew out the candles, sang happy birthday, and ate cake. In that order  Marianne couldn't wait until the song was done being sung to blow even though we did it a few times.  Love it!  The cake had candy butterflies on it.  They were a little weird but everyone at at least one.
After cake we played a bit more with new toys and then did the pinata.  Mari didn't know what it was, but she caught on quick.   I had to end up breaking it open though in the end because none of the kids could get it.  Then the kids all came in and ate a giant bowl of candy from the pinate while sitting in the tent watching Yo Gabba Gabba on the tv.  This was shaping up to be Marianne's dream day- and mostly because she got to say what the kids had to play and watch and do and she never gets a say with Kate and Sam.
The party wasn't over yet.  After all that we went and grabbed some food from Arby's and went to sit and watch the city parade which happened to be that night.  The kids clapped and cheered for horses and firetrucks and mostly floats throwing out lots more candy.
Wheww!  What a fun weekend we got to have celebrating our sweet angel Marianne.  Birthdays are always my favorite days of the year.  Nothing is better than putting everything else aside and spending an entire day letting one of my kids know how special they are to me!
Marianne went to bed that night with about six more things in her bed in addition to the already 10 thing she must have when she goes to bed.  That girls LOVES.  She just LOVES and I'm glad to get to be in her circle of love with Jake, Sam, her sisters, her grandparents, her friends, her cousins her "jeejaw" what she calls her blankie, and the 25 animals and figurines and counting she mothers and can't live without.
We love our Mari girl.  lots more about Mari coming with her three year old pictures soon.
