Aug 12, 2013
We celebrated Marianne's birthday today. A few days early. partly because we couldn't wait, and partly because the week is busy.
It was the best day.
We started the day by just her and I going to the store. We needed candles, and maybe some balloons. So together we shopped. She loves going to the store by herself with me. She pointed out each and every thing she could name by word. I love taking just her too. She watched patiently as they blew the helium balloons up. They gave her some smarties too. She was in heaven. Sitting in the cart and then the car with 6 helium balloons and a small candy she was so happy. I didn't even want to drive, just sit and watch her be so content. Mary is always happy. So when she has a reason to be happy she is extremely adorable and over the top happy. It is pretty easy to please Mary. When we got home we gave her a bath. I did her hair and painted her nails pink like she asked. Then she had lunch and went down for her nap.
That is when Sam, Kate and I started working quickly. We decorated a cake, put up streamers, more balloons and then they had the idea to put up some pictures they colored of minnie and mickey mouse (she was having a minnie mouse party because she loves minnie and mickey right now) We also piled up all the dolls and babies she loves so much in the living room. And of course her presents. Then we set the table with decorations and then we set up her big present, a pool. Soon she woke up, we called Jake who was working away from home today to hurry home. We didn't want her to see her surprise party just yet. I got her dressed in some new minnie mouse clothes and then put her on my bed with the computer and Kate and Sam watching a minnie cartoon until Jake came home which was only a few minutes. Then we all put on Disney ears and let her come in. We sang her happy birthday and showed her all of her surprises. She was so excited and I think she really felt loved which is why I put so much work into birthdays afterall.
First she opened presents.
Kate and Sam had gone with me to the store and picked out a mickey mouse doll and a very cute teapot set.
From Jake and I she got the big pool- which we showed her later, and a few puzzles and some more clothes with minnie on them.
She also got a minnie mouse costume from Aunt Amy and a baby doll crib from Grandma and Grandpa Anderson.
She loved her gifts and every reaction was pure delight. She loved everything so much. She is just such a happy pleasant girl. But the gifts were perfect. The Mickey she carried around all day. We played tea party a bit and did her puzzles. Then we let her have her cake. She had some trouble getting the candles out. But jumped up with her arms in the air when she finished them. Then ate her cake. We had one last surprise for her so we let her go in the front yard and find her pool. She was ready to jump right in, but we made her go inside and get her swimming suit on. Then she played in it and outside with all the nieghbor kids well past dinner time. We filled the pool with her floating tube monkey and some balloons.
We went out to eat for dinner to Timp Freeze. Partially because Mary loves corn dogs, sweet potato fries and ice cream- of which they have all. And partly because our fridge is out and I don't want to buy groceries until the new one comes on Wednesday.
Then we came home and Grandma and Grandpa Anderson came over with a baby doll crib. We put i
t together and played with it and she loved it of course.
I always say my favorite days of the year are my kids birthday. It was certainly true today. Making her feel loved and special and seeing the other kids pitch in to make her day special and help her have the happiest day is such a wonderful thing. Mary is such a blessing in our home. She is so very loved, by everyone, and it is so easy to love her.
When we put her to bed at night we all came in her room and sang her Happy Birthday one last time. She did her little bouncing hand leading us in the song.
My heart explodes for this girl.
I can't imagine a better day with her.
