Kate, Samuel and Marianne all played a baseball sport this Spring.
Kate played for the first time on a softball team. It was coach pitch. She was on the Red Sox. She was a great sport and pretty decent at the sport as well. It seems to be one of the only sports she likes a lot so far so we are encouraging her to play. She didn't like the visor though. Her team played at one really nice field that was shaded and the other kids could play in the grass in the cool shade while we watched her play and cheered her on each Tuesday and Thursday night in June.
Samuel and Marianne were on a Neighborhood T-ball team. Kate was too old this year for this, but Marianne was just barely too young and they let her play anyways. Our team was coached by a friend and the had all our kids friends on the team so it was a great time for everyone. I enjoyed watching the games each monday and Wednesday morning at 9am, Kate helped me with Bethany and the other two kids were playing. Their team was the Little Rascals. They were not too excited about that team name or color gray.
This was Marianne's first go at organized sports and she has basically been preparing her entire life for it.... so she loved it. She looked completely adorable in the uniform that was way too big and smiled the whole time she ran around the bases. Almost every game I heard some mom comment on how cute she was- because she was so much smaller than the other kids playing, but totally holding her own... well most the time. There was some dirt drawings and one game where she wouldn't stop talking Sam for some reason. Her favorite part though was the treats for sure. I think she may have been waiting to play in organized sports her whole life because she sees all the treats Sam and Kate come home with.
Sam did great at t-ball too. His skills shined and of course he loved it too. He would ask every night if we had t-ball in the morning so he could make sure he had his shirt and glove all ready. Like all sports he plays it is his sportsmanship that I notice. Always smiling and always cheering. When asked to report to his Dad about the game he might say something like "And Rocco hit a home run!" or " the other team was really good!" I love that about him.
We lucked out and the day I took pictures was also the day the Orem Owlz mascot came to say hello. Bethany loved him and couldn't get enough of him. We also lucked out since Jake's office is one block away he was able to sneak away from his computer and watch t-ball. He also had to take kids to all these t-ball and softball games on his own the week I went to girls camp. Notice we were playing t-ball or softball almost every day of the week. it was a lot. We loved it but are ready for a break and to just relax this summer!
