April 9 2016

Kate Marie turned 9 on April 9th.
Her Golden Birthday!

she wanted to plan a late night spa party on her actually birthday.  So a while before we made together adorable invitations and took them around to all her friends.  What fun to have a party on your actual birthday.  Kate is very into the planning of her day.  We went to the store and picked out neon party supplies and spa supplies.  She really wanted to do a face mask.
Then her day arrived.  For gifts we got her some science books she has loved lately, some moon shoes, a pottery wheel, and a gift certificate to go and get her ears pierced.  Well that went over really well!

After presents the entire family headed up to Park City.  First stop Panda Express for some lunch.  Than to Claire's where the lady took extra care to make it perfect and special.  No tears were shed and she picked out 20 pair of earrings in a pack to go.  She is braver than I!   I'm so happy she was happy.  She suddenly looks so much older with the earrings in.

Then we hung out, played with her new things and party prepped.  There was a lot of prep. Cucumbers to cut, masks to make, foot baths and fingernail polish, refreshments and music.  When we were done prepping Kate said "I think people will be really impressed"  Is that what we were going for?  I loved it.

Than ten or so girl friends arrived including her cousin Kaylie.  They played games, than did cake, than presents than spa treatments.  I helped them and let Marianne be my buddy.  It was fun to listen to all their conversations, suddenly Kate and her friends seemed like teens- preteens at least talking about school and friends while paining their nails in the later hours of the night.  Kate thought the mask was the best part- most of the girls did.   In the end I think the evening was a success and that is all I could want for Kate was to have everything she wanted.  Most likely she will only have one or so more childish organized birthday parties.  How sad is that!

Kate is so special.
She has grown a lot this year.  I see her being a better friend to me and her siblings.  I see her holding her temper and trying harder and not freaking out.  I see her finding new interests and getting excited to talk about them.  She is really enjoying history and science facts and loves to share funny and strange tidbits.  I see her being more patient with her siblings and me and more tolerant of things she didn't love.  She is gaining and better understanding of how the world works and how to well be an adult.  I don't want her to grow up to fast, but it is nice having somebody who understands directions and how to get along.  She is beautiful.  Its fun to see her seem like a version of me when I was younger.  She loves dance and theater and reading.  She loves bright colors and prints and decorating like me.  She is interested in things like clothing and music suddenly.  She likes to know who sings this song etc.  She leads the girls in dances to music videos and they are actually really good. She got put in an accelerated group in math at school which she has worked really hard for.  Its hard being the oldest kid I think sometimes. I know that from experience.  I hope she remembers to have fun and be happy.   I love her and am so proud of her.
