The Basement is finally done. Kind of. Of course there are always little things to do. Like touch up paint and hang shelves. But I'm calling it done.
We started with a contractor doing all the framing, electric, HVAC and drywall Nov 1. He finished Dec 3, and we thought for sure we would be able to finish by around Christmas..... HA!
THE FAMILY ROOM AND PLAY ROOM.
We painted the room Agreeable Grey by Sherwin Williams to match the upstairs. We hung a funky chandelier from Ikea. We laid the Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring- which took three weeks just by itself. We installed, sanded and painted all the moulding, window sills, and batten board.
Then I decorated. Mostly with our old couch, rug, chairs and tables and most of our old pillows. I added new pillows, a few funky accessories, ottomans from Target and prints I made from a cut up calendar and framed. They are different places around the world, and my favorite part. The toy area has all our old toy shelving and containers and a red rug that use to be in Sam's room. We also of course got a new ping pong table.
Last but not least we built a large yellow firehouse slider. I'm calling it a firehouse slider because it is like a farm house slider but industrial. It was a huge headache, especially as anxious as we were to be finished. We built the track out of galvanized piping, eye hooks and cast wheels, and the handle out of piping as well. It is my absolute favorite thing in the whole basement. It is the door to the craft room. The craft room is what still needs work. It is empty right now. It needs desks and cubbies and bulletin boards and craft supplies.
We also still need a media cabinet under the tv put I haven't found what I want yet.
KATE'S ROOM.
We had amazing carpet and padding laid in the three downstairs bedrooms and hallways. It is so lush we kind of wish we would have put it in the family room too. We just like to lay on it. In Kate's room we painted the whole space a ballet pink. Then applied gold polka dots on one wall. Her and I picked out that colorful bird fabric and made and upholstered headboard and matching bulletin board. And together painted the night stand teal. I picked up the desk on a classified site, as well as the pink chair. The bedding and rug are from Ikea, with pillows and accessories from here and there. We installed a batten board wall in her room as well that is white, with a gallery wall of things Kate and I created together hanging above.
THE BATHROOM
The bathroom is the most beautiful room in our house. And it took us a lot of work too. We did all the tile work ourselves, with large grey tiles on the floor and white penny tile for the backsplash. I also love the faucet in here which was one of the biggest splurges for the basement. The vanity we got at Lowes as well as the counter top. The accessories are from Target, and Ikea, and the print was as custom creation, of a quote I love.
SAM'S ROOM
Sam wanted a BYU soccer room. He has the wonderful carpet for flooring. He and I painted his room white with Navy and White Rugby stripes on one wall. He got the old blue bunk bed with new Sports Themed bedding I got black friday at Kohls. We also found Sports pillows at Ikea. He and I painted an old bookshelf grey and made the green "S" sign. We picked out the green rug because it is suppose to look like grass for soccer.
GUEST ROOM
There is not a lot to the guest room. We had a queen set mattress from before we got our King Bed. I purchased this iron bed from Joss and Main and the bedding and pillows are old stuff we've had around the house. The ladder hanging above is from the office- the bookshelf up there came with two and we only set one out so it has just been sitting in the storage room.
Not shown the THREE storage closets.
Because they are a mess and where we threw everything because we want to pretend like we really are done and don't have a huge mess to clean up downstairs. But there is almost 200 square feet in storage space that needs to be organized and clean out down there.
Considering this was all concrete and nothing more we are very proud and pleased with the space. And mostly surprised it took us five months to paint, floor and decorate the space. Our last basement we did all the work, every inch and it took us two years- it was only 800 square feet. This basement is over 2000 square feet, so I guess five months isn't so bad. We thought since we hired out so much of the work it wouldn't feel like such a big project, but we were wrong. It was a huge undertaking we anxiously worked on for months. We are so excited to just enjoy it finally!
Jake and I make a great team. We have always done projects together. And its our hobby together, and I love it. He lets me pick everything, he figures out how to do it, he's the boss of the building and I'm the boss of the style. We love completing projects together.
And he didn't give up when the yellow door didn't work perfectly. Because I wanted it and I love it!
