We decided to spend a Saturday having fun finally- after many Saturdays on a basement.
Plus it was the perfect spring day.
So we took the kids to Wheeler Farms- a historical working farm in Salt Lake.
There were really just animals to pet, and a guy carving wood, but the kids thought it was great. Kate was fearless with the animals. Almost too fearless. She sticks her arm in a goat pen, and grabs for a chicken to hold. Sam walks us around the barn full of old tractors and tells us about them like he knows. Marianne bounds down the dirts paths with a skip in her step like always eyes wide open telling us about everything in disbelief like it is the most amazing thing she has even seen or hear.
They didn't have a donkey though. Our family went on a drive a few weeks ago and had a contest to see who could see a donkey first... we do this sometimes on Sunday drives, who can see a deer first, who can see a moose, a llama, who can see a zebra... all of these things are usually easily found where we drive (yes there is a zebra at a house off the highway) but for some reason despite driving around a ton of farms in the valley nobody had a donkey. We were sure we would find one at Wheeler Farms... but still no donkey. Our family is on an illusive donkey hunt, and mostly because Beth makes a donkey sound and she says "hew haw" and it is awesome. Last drive we literally found a field of 400 deer all grazing... but No donkeys.
After the farm we had a snack at a park near by and played at the playground.
Beth is fearless and slides down the slides backwards even when they are two stories off the ground. Her feet hit the ground and she heads right back up the exact same path to the exact same slide.
Jake and I drive home and talk while the kids watch a show on the car DVD player. We know we are blessed with incredible kids. Days like this and quiet drives home only prove it more.
